Alexandra Princess-Seamed Top

The Alexandra Top is developed from Bunka Basic Bodice Block (Missy). Inspired by a design in the Mrs Stylebook 2018 High Summer edition, this sleeveless top has: 

  • a notched, bateau neckline

  • princess style lines on the front and back. 

  • a half-placket button closure at the centre back.

  • an elastic detail on the front centre panel for a more slimming silhouette.

 

What you will learn from making this outfit:

  • Take basic body measurements

  • Develop the Bunka Bodice Block (Missy Style) using your measurements

  • Develop the top design from the Bunka Bodice Block (Missy Style)

  • Interpret instructional drafting illustrations to develop garment patterns

  • Convert bodice block to garment pattern

  • Fabric layout and cutting 

  • Construction of the top, which includes sewing techniques:

    1. Finishing necklines and armholes with facings

    2. Creating an elastic channel

    3. Joining princess seams

    4. Sewing half placket

    5. Creating buttonholes and handsewing buttons 

Materials required for this garment:

  • 1.6m x 45" wide fabric (recommended fabric: poplin, broadcloth, lightweight denim. The yardage recommended is for non-directional fabric with random motifs that does not require motif matching during fabric cutting).

  • 30cm x 3cm wide elastic 

  • 40cm x 90cm wide fusible interfacing

  • 4 x 1.5cm diameter buttons

  • Matching thread
